About Us  |  Gallery of the Arts  |  Adventures in Math & Science  |  Living Geography & History  |  Sailing and Sport

We are a thriving homeschool based on unschooling principles. Basically, we're just a houseful of people who like to have fun discovering things. Our life is incredibly diverse--so diverse that it's hard to structure a website that contains it. This is because our living covers all areas of learning. We let life lead the learning.

So, you'll find these pages aren't confined to homeschooling or even unschooling. They encompass a wide variety of interests and explorations that have been part of our life over the last decade.

We have lots of links and examples of "stealth" education. We've quickly learned how gullible children are, as Cat's mother has always told her. You can do all kinds of things involving chemistry, physical education, biology and even animal husbandry. The kids will never know they were learning.

Waiver: We cannot be held responsible for any damages to life, property or boredom that may be incurred by trying to:

  • make your own biodiesel
  • sail your own boat
  • grow your own food
  • milk your own cow
  • "smarten up" your own kids
  • cross your own country
  • gaze your own stars
  • have your own fun!

Nope, that's right. Any fun you have is your own problem, and we are not liable.

homeschooling

The Life-Led Learning pages are the fast lane to exploring homeschooling, unschooling, Christian unschooling, and a discipleship lifestyle. At the blog, we give semi-regular updates on the W5 of our children's "stealth" education.

family music, family faith

We like to sing and dance...well, some of us do. Some of us are more comfortable leading a Bible study than dancing. We also have a fine collection of family friends who share song and worship via podcast.

go hunt your own carrots

One of our longest-term projects is making rural living cost-effective, while using the abundant resources given us to the fullest benefit. For several years, we've chronicled the oddities and escapades involved in gardening, making biodiesel, keeping bees and fighting killer attack rodents.

you didn't really mean that?!?

Reading and writing are of great interest to our family. In 2007, we took part in our first National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). How people communicate--or fail to--is deeply interesting, occasionally disturbing, and always worth examining.

wild, but not uncultivated [coming soon]

A birder in hand is worth two running and screaming in the bush. That's what we believe, anyway. With a young hobby ornithologist, a Master Gardener and several botany/nature lovers in our clan, there is always something to to amuse us in our wild wanderings.

[new content coming soon]

Everything about unschooling, arranged by classroom-style subject headings.

How to keep honeybees, fix engines, and make your own biodiesel.

Photo journals of family travels, including our Great Cross-Canada Field Trip.

Landlubbers learning to sail--and not to fight over who gets to be captain.

A gallery of children's (and parents') art, and a small-but-feisty collection of creative writing.
